How to Buy the Perfect Present for Those Awkward Relatives
Everyone knows people that are so hard to buy gifts for. There are always people in your family whom you hardly know. However, there are times when you truly need to get these people gifts no matter how difficult it may be to think of which gifts to get for them. There are things you can do that can help you buy gifts for those awkward relatives.
Give Gift Certificates
These make great gifts for those relatives we hardly know. Just make sure you do some asking around as to what those relatives may have interests in. If your Aunt Melba likes knitting, then you can get gift certificates from a store that sells yarns and other knitting supplies. If your Uncle Harold has a pet fish, you can get him a gift certificate from a tropical fish store.
Craft Supplies or Consumables
If your mother's cousin is a crochet-addict, you can get her a box of yarn or crochet thread in different colors. Or if your cousin fancies himself a painter, then you can buy a set of watercolors and brushes. These are gifts that do not have to be expensive but can be appreciated even by people we are hardly close to.
Get a Gift Meant For Their Pet
If that awkward relative has a bulldog or a houseful of cats, you can consider giving them a gift that is actually meant for their pets. Give cat-lovers some cat treats or cat toys. If they like birds, then get some special bird feed or some bird treats. You can even give them a coupon to a pet grooming service near where they live.
Donate to a Charity in Their Name
This makes a great gift for relatives who have everything or are difficult to buy gifts for. Most people have causes that are dear to them. You can donate to these causes in your relatives' name. If your relative is an ardent environmentalist, then a donation to a charity that is devoted to saving the environment would be perfect. Normally, charities issue a letter that states who gave what. You can give to your relative as a remembrance that you have donated in their name.
Give Subscriptions or Memberships
If your relative is an art connoisseur, you can give a pass to a museum or art gallery. If they are sports fans, maybe a subscription to their favorite clubs' newsletter or magazine. You can give subscriptions of their favorite newspaper or even a membership to a video rental store if they are into classic films. Even tickets to a concert or a recital would be very welcome. Even a membership to the local library can make great gifts.
There are times when we have people we have very awkward relationships with and we are unsure of what to do and what to give them as gifts. Gifts need not be expensive to mean something to people, so long as you have put some thought into what to give them.
